East Bay Municipal Utility District
The purpose of this study was to conduct laboratory testing of selected AC pipe samples and to analyze this data in conjunction with historical data collected from the District in order to gain an understanding of the continuing cause of failure of AC pipes throughout the District in order to develop a prediction model for future failures that can be utilized for the development of a pipeline repair and replacement program. This project involves the investigation into the catastrophic failure of a section of 36-inch diameter asbestos-cement (AC) pipe being used for water transmission in Napa, CA. The subject A-C pipe system suffered a catastrophic failure in April, 2011 and reportedly has been in operation for approximately 40(+) years. Photo depicts piece of failed 36” AC Pipe
